One code, one batch
Lot and batch mean the same thing in the main manufacturing guidelines. The lot number is the code that ties a container to the history of the batch it came from, including how it was tested.
ICH Q7 expects the batch number on the certificate of analysis, and labels carrying batch numbers to be tightly controlled so they cannot be mixed up.
What to compare
What a match does not prove
A matching number shows the paperwork claims to cover your batch. It does not prove the sample tested came from that batch. On some lab reports, such as those from Janoshik, header details like the manufacturer and batch number are typed in by the customer who ordered the test, and extra copies can be issued with different batch numbers.
So a match is the minimum. Check the report with the lab that issued it as well.
