Not a peptide
Peptides are chains of amino acids. 5-Amino-1MQ is a single ring-shaped molecule with no amino acids in it at all. It is sold by many peptide suppliers, which is why it often gets called one.
The same lab methods still apply: HPLC shows purity and mass spectrometry confirms identity.
What NNMT is
NNMT (nicotinamide N-methyltransferase) is an enzyme that moves a methyl group onto nicotinamide, a form of vitamin B3. 5-Amino-1MQ has been studied in cell and animal research as a compound that blocks this enzyme. It has not been through the clinical trials needed to become a licensed medicine.
Why the salt form matters
5-Amino-1MQ carries a positive charge, so it is made and sold as a salt, paired with a negative ion such as iodide. That changes the paperwork:
Regulatory status
5-Amino-1MQ is not an approved medicine in the UK, the EU or the US. In the UK, a product presented or sold for use in people is treated as a medicine, which needs a licence from the MHRA.
For sport, the WADA Prohibited List bans any pharmacological substance not approved for human use (section S0), even when it is not named.
