Peptide basics

What is a "research peptide"?

⚡ Short answer

A research peptide is a synthetic peptide sold for laboratory research only. It is not a licensed medicine, has not been approved for use in people or animals, and is usually sold as a freeze-dried powder with a certificate of analysis.

Research grade versus a medicine

A licensed medicine has been through clinical trials, is made in inspected factories to pharmaceutical standards, and is approved for a specific use. A research peptide has none of that. It is a chemical sold for experiments in a lab.

Some compounds exist as both. Elamipretide, for example, is now an FDA-approved medicine, while "SS-31" sold online as a research chemical is not that medicine, even though it shares the sequence.

What should come with it

A batch number on the vial.
A certificate of analysis for that batch, ideally from an independent lab.
Identity confirmed by mass spectrometry and purity by HPLC.
Clear research-use-only labelling with no health or dosing claims.
Educational information only

Educational information only. Nothing here is medical advice, dosing guidance or a recommendation to use any substance. Research peptides are not approved medicines and are not for human or animal consumption. Speak to a qualified professional and follow the law where you are.
