What is a peptide blend?

⚡ Short answer

A peptide blend is a single vial containing two or more different peptides mixed together. Blends are harder to verify than single peptides, because each one in the mix needs its own identity and amount confirmed.

Why blends are harder to verify

HPLC separates a mixture into peaks, so a blend should show one main peak for each peptide in it. A certificate that gives a single "99% purity" figure for the whole vial does not tell you whether each peptide is there, or in what ratio.

The amount matters as much as the identity. A vial labelled as two peptides in equal amounts could hold very different amounts of each, and only a test that measures each one will show it.

What a good blend certificate shows

Every peptide in the blend named, with its mass confirmed by mass spectrometry.
The measured amount of each peptide, not just the total weight.
A chromatogram with each peak labelled.
The same batch number as the vial.

Stability in a mix

Each peptide breaks down at its own rate. A blend is only as stable as its least stable part, so storage advice for a blend should follow the most sensitive peptide in it.
