What does "research use only" mean?

⚡ Short answer

"Research use only" means a product is sold for laboratory research, not for use in people or animals and not as an approved medicine. The label alone does not make a product lawful: regulators look at how it is presented and sold.

What the label says

"Research use only" tells the buyer the product is supplied for laboratory work. It is not a licensed medicine, not for human or animal consumption, and not for diagnostic use.

Regulation

What the label does not do

In the UK, whether something counts as a medicine depends on how it is presented and what it is for, not just what the label says. The MHRA looks at the whole picture: product names, descriptions, images, claims and any instructions.

A product marketed with health claims, dosing instructions or pictures of people using it can be treated as an unlicensed medicine, whatever the label says.

What this means for a store

Keep research-use wording on every product page and in the footer.
No health, effect or dosing claims anywhere, including reviews and support chats.
Add an age check and clear terms.
Speak to a UK regulatory solicitor about your own products.
Educational information only

Educational information only. Nothing here is medical advice, dosing guidance or a recommendation to use any substance. Research peptides are not approved medicines and are not for human or animal consumption. Speak to a qualified professional and follow the law where you are.
